Diddy on the record w/ Fuse
Diddy dropping some jewels in this interview, talking about the music business, different channels he uses to make money, also talks about his father, Melvin Combs (who’s murder when Diddy was 3 ultimately steered him away from the streets.)
He says that contrary to popular belief, his father never worked for Frank Lucas or Nicky Barnes. He says that his father was just as big as them (after the standard “I’m not trying to glorify” of course.) He also mentions that he had to research his father’s hustler history through microfilm at the library, because his mother never talked about him.

Former Hermes Leader dead at 72

The former head of the luxury brand Hermès, Jean-Louis Dumas, died on May 1 at the age of 72. Dumas ran Hermès from 1978 to 2006 and was responsible for transforming the brand from a small and well-respected maker of leather goods to an internationally known luxury brand. Dumas was the great-great grandson of Thierry Hermès, who founded the company in 1837. Dumas helped give the world the intensely craved Birkin bag and brought fashion designer Jean-Paul Gaultier to the brand. Known to be a charismatic man of great style, he also published a book of photographs. The family still owns over 70 percent of the Hermès group and Dumas’ son Pierre-Alexis works as an artistic director for the company.
According to a story in the Telegraph, the Birkin bag came about after Dumas and actress Jane Birkin sat next to each other on a flight from Paris to London. She told Dumas that she could never find a decent handbag and so he invited her to the Hermès workshop to help create one. The bag remains a status symbol known around the world and it can take years to get your own.
Ash Cloud costing Duty-free shops millions

Here’s one fallout of the Icelandic ash cloud that you might not have thought of: the duty-free market. According to a Bloomberg article the shutdown of travel across the European airspace is costing duty-free retailers an estimated 25 million euros ($34 million) a day in lost revenue. The industry has had a quiet decline over the last couple of years as travel for both business and pleasure has decreased. Generation Research estimates that sales of duty-free items sold at airport shops and on planes fell 8 percent to $22.7 billion last year and European sales accounted for almost half of that. The lack of passenger traffic from delayed flights means lost revenue for the airport shops. Even those travelers that are stranded in the airport itself aren’t in a buying mood. Travelers from Asia who often spend a lot on European luxury goods have not been able to fly in.
Airspace is gradually reopening across Europe but a new ash cloud headed for the U.K. means London’s airports may not be able to open as quickly. The ash could clog plane engines and so most of Europe has been under a prolonged shutdown waiting for the air to clear. It’s not all bad news for some luxury retailers, the volcano may have crippled duty-free sales but travelers stranded in European cities may decide to spend a little spare time shopping in other stores in the towns.

Jimmy & Cam reunite

Source Last week I had a conversation with two old friends. But what was remarkable about this wasn’t the fact that they called, or even what we talked about….what really meant something is that, for the first time in over three years, these two guys were calling me together…
“Minya, it’s Jimmy….I’m sitting in the passenger seat of this car right now. I want you to talk to the driver real quick.”
“Ok, Jimmy.”
[brief pause] “What up, Min. It’s Cam…”
Yes!! Now we’re finally getting somewhere…Before I could start grilling them about the who/what/where/why/when….Jimmy made it very clear that he had to get something off his chest, with Cam right there…

Dre & Jimmy talk business & digital revolution
Dre says the single for Detox with Jay-Z will be out in a week or two, and he definitely plans on dropping the album this year. More importantly they talk about how they plan on changing the game and taking over the digital revolution. Towards the end Jimmy talks about on-demand streaming of music (on portable devices) the licensing side of things and what it would mean for Interscope Records/Universal.
