First Armani Hotel opens in Dubai

It took a little longer than expected but the first Armani Hotel has opened in the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa tower in Dubai. The hotel is the first landmark tenant in the building. The 160-room hotel marks the Italian designer’s first foray into the hotel business.

Every bit of the hotel’s design was overseen by Armani and is a consistent vision of his neutral, minimalist luxe style. The staff wear Armani suits and dresses. The hotel is designed to be exclusive and only those who have room or restaurant reservations can gain access to the area of the Burj Khalifa that houses the hotel. Your stay comes with the sevices of a “lifestyle consultant,” a personal concierge who sees to all your needs. Such fine digs will cost you. Rates start at $750 and night and a suite can run you $2,500 although opening specials in the fast rising heat of late spring will net you a studio for $550 and an Armani Signature Suite for $2,200. Restaurants include Armani/Amal, offering Indian food with modern presentation, Armani/Hashi for sushi and Japanese plates, and Armani/Peck, an Italian style deli.

All Black everything

There’s an epic history to all-powerful, super-fast Mercedes. Recent highlights have included the SLR McLaren, the new SLS AMG, and this, the SL65 AMG Black Series. With a solid carbon-fiber roof and a 670-horsepower turbocharged V12 engine, the SL Black is one of the fastest cars ever to wear the three-pointed star. But one discerning client in Dubai wasn’t satisfied, so he turned to eminent Benz tuner Brabus for an answer.

What they came back with is what you see here: the Brabus Vanish. Upgrading the turbochargers, gearbox, brakes and exhaust has yielded 800 horsepower, looking menacing in its matte black paint scheme. Try not to like it too much, though, as this was a one-of-a-kind creation.

Worlds fastest street legal SUV

The Brabus GLK V12 (above), a modified Mercedes-Benz billed as the world’s fastest street-legal SUV, just made its world debut at the Dubai Motor Show. The $570,000 beast is powered by a 750 hp 12-cylinder twin turbo engine, the vehicle set a new speed record of 200.3 mph at Italy’s Nardo test track in October and can do 0 – 62 mph in 4.2 seconds.

Other upgrades include air intakes and a carbon fiber spoiler lip on the front apron, a four-pipe sports exhaust system, fender flares, a rear roof spoiler. The interior is done in full leather interior with Alcantara elements, an ergonomically shaped sport steering wheel and wood or carbon fiber trim for the dashboard, doors and center console. Custom consoles for the backs of the vehicles front seats contain multimedia devices in case the passengers get bored between neck-snapping accelerations.

Burj Dubai pick up 4 custom Rolls Royce’s

The ultra-opulent Burj Al Arab hotel, symbol of Dubai’s excess, has just received four new custom Rolls-Royce Phantom limousines, pushing its total fleet of Phantoms to 10. Produced by Rolls’ Bespoke Programme, the cars’ interiors feature Grecian key marquetry applied to the wood veneer, and the distinctive Burj Al Arab logo embroidered into the leather headrests.

The cars are all white like the exterior of the hotel itself, which is home to the $18,000-per-night Royal Suite, one of the world’s most expensive hotel rooms.

Ferrari World

What you’re looking at is Ferrari World, the first Ferrari theme park, being built on the man-made Yas Island resort in Abu Dhabi.

The complex stands as the largest indoor park in the world, encompassing some 2 million square feet under a giant 150-foot-high red steel roof sporting the largest Ferrari logo in the world. Out of the top protrudes a 200-foot g-force drop tower, accompanying the world’s fastest roller coaster, a flume ride simulating a Ferrari engine and kart tracks among its 20+ attractions. Of course there’ll be plenty of restaurants and shopping opportunities that go along with any theme park as well. This one is set to open its doors some time next year as part of an ongoing initiative to turn the United Arab Emirates into a leading tourist destination.
