World’s largest flying boat
The Dornier Do X was largest, heaviest, and most powerful flying boat in the world, it was produced by the Dornier company of Germany in 1929, it was called the Flugschiff (flying ship). Powered by twelve water-cooled engines, with a crew of 14 and designed to carry 66 passengers long distance or 100 on shorter flights.
“On the main deck was a smoking room with its own wet bar, a dining salon, and seating for the 66 passengers which could also be converted to sleeping berths for night flights. Aft of the passenger spaces was an all-electric galley, lavatories, and cargo hold. The cockpit, navigational office, engine control and radio rooms were on the upper deck. The lower deck held fuel tanks and nine watertight compartments, only seven of which were needed to provide full flotation.” source
Porsche 918 Spyder – Hybrid
Porsche just released a video showing the new 918 Spyder concept, its new 918 Spyder is a mid-engined sports car with plug-in hybrid, powered by both a 500-horsepower V8 and a pair of electric motors (on the front and rear axle) producing an additional 218 hp or 160kW. It can reach 62 mph in 3.2 seconds, a top-end speed of 198 mph. The best part about it is that Porsche says it can also achieve 78 miles per gallon and emit just 70 grams of CO2 per kilometer
FLying Hovercraft
This Flying Hovercraft is a “wing in ground effective vehicle” by Rudy Heeman of Nelson, New Zealand. He has developed a hovercraft that can fly and could be used as boat or land vehicle. Mr Heeman spent 11 years, and made in the inventor’s garage, this hovercraft is crafted while using various parts from other vehicles like scooters, BBQs, and junked cars. The hoverwing sets off like a normal-hovercraft but when it reaches top speed of 60mph, its wings can be extended and it takes flight. This machine has a 1.8 liter Subaru engine which allows for a maximum of 225 kilometers and its wings are removable. When in flight, this machine can carry only two people or 160 kg, but in hovercraft mode the capacity increases to three people. The maximum altitude of this Flying Hovercraft is around 3 meters.
Lets hope a big corporation don’t buy this guy out and scrap the idea, like they did with all the super fuel efficient ideas for automobiles.
Louis V. Sues Hyundai over super bowl ad
Louis Vuitton is taking on Hyundai over the display of a Vuitton-logoed basketball used in in a thirty-second spot aired during the Super Bowl. It’s just on the screen for a second or two, but that’s enough to make Louis Vuitton angry. Bentley by Onyx
Onyx Concept based out of Ireland, presented their latest creations with their new Platinum GTO.
With this Bentley Continental GT, Onyx boosted output up from 553 horsepower to beyond 640, mounted a new sport suspension and fitted 22-inch wheels. A full body kit gives the Platinum GTO a new front end – complete with LED daytime running lights and a carbon fiber splitter – while around back there’s a decklid spoiler and diffuser also made from carbon fiber.
No pricing has been announced, but deliveries are expected to begin next month.
New Rolls Royce CEO announced

Back on July 1st of 2008, Tom Purves became Rolls-Royce’s new CEO. At the time, Autoblog reported that the move was an interesting one due to parent company BMW’s mandatory retirement age of 60, which Purves was just about to turn when he got the top spot at RR. Not surprisingly, then, the automaker has just announced a new commander-in-chief, Torsten Mueller.
Mueller is a longtime member of the BMW Group senior management, having worked for the German automaker for the last 20 years. Most recently, Mueller had been running BMW global product management, though his most significant contribution to the company may be his role in helping the revived Mini brand get off the ground back in 2000.
Mueller will assume the role of Rolls-Royce CEO at the end of March 2010.
John Dillinger’s Ford up for Auction
John Dillinger and his gang used to escape federal agents in one of the most famous shoot-outs in American history.
In the midst of a nation-wide robbing spree, Dillinger and his cronies stayed at the Little Bohemia Lodge in rural Wisconsin. After the proprietors alerted law enforcement to their presence, federal agents arrived at the scene, shooting the place full of bullets in an effort to kill the wanted criminals. As depicted in the blockbuster hit Public Enemies, Dillinger and a few of his men managed to escape into the woods and commandeered this very vehicle, using it to flee to Minnesota where they picked up a faster Ford V8. The Model A seen here was returned to its owner, who was forced to drive the car as Dillinger shot out the back window, and it stayed with the family for decades.
It’s also the car the film-makers used to recreate the scene following an extensive and faithful restoration. Now the 1930 Ford Model A, with four-cylinder engine, bullet holes and all, is up for sale by Barrett-Jackson at their upcoming event in Scottsdale, Arizona.
